Life Lessons from the Boyfriend Himself

Today is a special day because it’s my boyfriends 23rd birthday!! For those of you I don’t know, his name is Anthony and we’ve been together since we were 17 (babies). Another fun fact is that he is a professional football player in Germany and is probably the hardest working and best human I know.

(Senior year football game, 2012) —- (Senior Prom, 2013)

Without getting all mushy, I wanted to highlight a few things that Anthony has taught me over the years. About health & fitness, yes, but about other things in life as well. I mean he didn’t get to where he is today by just wishing for it! For anyone who knows him, especially those who have been on a team with him, you’d probably say the same thing. This guy is just somethin else.

1) Your body is a machine

He actually called me out for posting about this on my IG earlier this week saying that I “copied him,” but I wasn’t copying him, I was just using what he’s instilled in me to make a point 😉 100% of the time this guy is making himself the best he can be. He literally treats his body better than anyone I’ve ever seen. We’re talking hours of workouts a day, recovery and stretching to ensure his muscles can perform as best as they can, and great eating habits as well (except for those milkshakes here and there;) ). As a 22 (now 23) year old, he rarely drinks or goes out simply because he wants his body to be in the best condition it can be at all times. Oh, and he’s super strict with his sleep schedule so don’t even bother trying to talk to him once he’s ready for bed. And this isn’t just during the football season. This is 24/7, 365. Imagine being around someone like that all the time – you can’t help but to pick up these amazing habits yourself! His pure dedication and hard work has 100% helped me get to where I am today simply by being around him. That’s pretty special.

2) Never give up

Making it to Germany was not an easy road for him. From his senior year in high school he was doubted by so many people, but he never let anyones opinions bother him. In fact, he loved the heat because he just used it as fuel to make him work even harder (which is actually another great lesson). The cool thing is, he’s still not giving up even after he made it professionally. He’s still on his path to the NFL and he’s doing whatever he can to make it there. And he’s not just saying that he’s doing whatever it takes, but he’s actually DOING whatever it takes. He’s simply not going to give up until he makes his dreams a reality…

3) Dream big

…which leads into number 3. He could easily stop now and say that he officially made it as a professional football player (which is incredibly hard to do as it is), but since he was young he dreamed of playing in the NFL – the best and hardest professional league to get into. He made his dreams big enough to continually push him past his limits. Just imagine if all of us set goals this big? And not even if we just set these goals, but if we actually put in the work throughout our entire lives and endured through any hardship to make sure that this goal was acheived? This world would be a much better place I could tell you that much.

4) Don’t take life too seriously

He’s going to get mad at me for saying this, but he’s pretty much a 12 year old in a 23 year olds body. Like you know at restaurants how little kids take the straw wrapper off and throw it at each other? He actually does that, then dunks it in my drink for special effect. He messes around, jokes and laughs about things more than anyone I know. Even a little grocery trip turns into something eventful because he just can’t sit still! He views everything in his life as a blessing and makes the most of everything as well, which just makes for one happy, energetic and fun guy. Its especially important to keep this mentality when everything else in life is always so serious, so I’m so thankful I get to act like a kid every day of my life with this goofball.

I could go on and on, but to just sum it up, he’s the greatest role model a girl could ask for. Thankful to have him in my life and by my side! We already have a pretty good year lined up (traveling Europe, him continuing his football career, etc.), but I can’t see what 23 brings! Love you Anthony and Happy Birthday!!
